Welcome to R'lon's page. This character has always been one of the more enjoyable
ones for me to play. R'lon started out as
the NPC brother of my character Mere. Ravalon, as he was called before
he Impressed, was so much fun to play and so many people seemed to like
him, that I turned him into a PC (played character). R’lon started out
in my stories at age 11, but shortly after he turned 12, he was
Searched by V’gran when the brownrider was delivering a letter to his
parents. R’lon is very energetic and has the same shocking red hair that his sister Mere used to have, which they both inherited from their mother Ralia, and he also has his mother's blue eyes. His stature is strong and more like his father's in the jawline and shoulders with a lean and lanky frame with whipcord muscles. I've played through a lot of time with him in game time, so his growth spurts finally slowed to a stop. He’s now 5’11” tall and will not get any taller than that.
While he was at Altasaria, he had a group of friends, although his closest friend was a boy named Caedon, who later went on to Impress a bronze about 5 Turns after R’lon Impressed his brown Tavereth. R’lon has a little brother named Calevon, and it was Calevon’s birth that allowed R’lon to leave the cothold and stand for Impression. He Impressed a brown dragon his first time up on March 23rd, 2002, which I named Tavereth. A brown was the highest honor for him, since the Queen that produced the clutch had been flown by a blue dragon, and so there were only brown, blue, and green dragons in the very tiny clutch of only ten eggs. I'm told the BoD wanted to make him a bronzerider, but didn't want to make him wait to Impress either. I think his temperament is more suited to being a brownrider anyway, so I'm very pleased that they didn't wait. :)
Tavereth is a mellow tempered brown, who has lived through R'lon's energetic phase to watch him settle into a much mellower person. Tavereth is now a mature dragon so he has given chase to many of the green dragons during their mating flights, and has caught more than a few of them. Tavereth first was able to give chase in mating flights when R'lon was 13. Most women in the Weyr don't want to sleep with a thirteen Turn old boy, so R'lon made sure that he was ready with a stand-in for the occasion, who was his friend Karlin.
Over time, R'lon's feelings developed for Karlin, but he failed to recognize this fact, content to enjoy Karlin's company and only sleep with her when there was a mating flight that Tavereth was involved in. However, after three Turns of this, Karlin was no longer content to just wait around for R'lon to figure this out, and the two got into a fight. Now on his own, R'lon realized that he truly did care for Karlin and felt terrible about their separation. So he made up with her and asked her to become his weyrmate, even though he was only 16 and she was only 15. She accepted, and they became weyrmates. He was promoted
to Wingsecond at the tender age of 16, and never really wished for any higher rank than that.
His best friend C’don convinced him to move to Rising Dawn Weyr with
him, and when he accepted his sister Mere recommended him for the Candidate Master Second position. Thinking that he would be demoted to a Wingrider once he transferred since he was only 18, R'lon agreed to take the position, and he didn't do too badly as the Candidate Master Second at first. When the Wings were announced, he was made the Wingsecond of a Wing, which pleased and surprised him.
However, he wasn't very good at keeping up with both jobs and his relationship with Karlin as well, and things started to go badly for him. After that first clutch Hatched at Rising Dawn, he and Karlin began to fight a lot, since she'd been promoted too, and the two had conflicting schedules and rarely had any time for one another. In the end, they decided to end their relationship before they ended up hating one another, and Karlin moved out of his weyr and into one of her own. At the second Hatching, one of the candidates that he was watching over was badly injured on the sands, and he felt very guilty about how he'd been dividing his time between the candidates and his Wing and resigned as the Candidate Master Second so that he could focus on just being a good strong Wingsecond.
It wasn't an easy decision for him, but he's finally over the mild depression he was in. For a while he was convinced that he ruined everything that he cared about, but that thinking eventually changed. He had a short fling with a Journeywoman Healer named Ryhann, but it didn't really work out, and they ended it on good terms.
Over time, I realized that there didn't seem to be very many people who were interested in my poor brownrider, and he didn't seem like the type who should always be alone or between relationships. I also had a greenrider named Jessilee who needed a stand-in for her flights, and much to my surprise, the two hit it off rather well when I started playing them in those roles. So I decided to weyrmate them. Jessilee is shortly to have their first child, a son whom they will name Viassilon, a mixture of his name, Jessilee's name, and V'gran's name. V'gran was the weyrmate of his sister Mere, who died with her. When he'd found out that Jessilee was pregnant, he'd hoped for a daughter, and wanted to name her Meredalia just as his sister was named, but the dolphins informed him that it was a boy. They're eventually going to have another child, and when it's a girl, she'll carry on R'lon's sister's name.
