One might think that as the middle child, he would risk being overlooked, but V’jol never had that problem. As the only son, he made sure that he got the attention that he deserved, often starting fights with his sister Jolie in order to do so. Other than the usual sibling rivalry, his childhood was pretty normal. When his uncle became a dragonrider, the first in the family to become one, he determined that someday he would become a dragonrider too.
His sisters were Searched at the same time that V’jol, then Vonjol, was, but he had to wait before he could stand, as he was only thirteen when he was Searched, and you have to be fourteen before they will allow you to stand at Storm Fires Weyr.
So instead of getting to march out onto the sands with his sister Jolie and his cousins Lieyona, Milran, and Ranela, he had to sit on the sidelines and watch as Lieyona Impressed the queen and his cousin Ranela Impressed a blue. Since his sister had stated that she wanted the queen, he teased her about not finding a lifemate a little bit, but his parents didn’t allow him to get out of line, and he wasn’t that into it when he saw how depressed it made her. He got to see what it felt like to be left standing at the next Hatching, when Jolie walked off the sands with a green and he was left standing, and then once more at the Hatching after that when he watched his cousin M’ran walk off with a blue.
V’jol’s ambition was simply to become a dragonrider; he wasn’t going to hope too much for any particular color, and he was delighted when Nyrith found him on the sands his third time standing. He was sixteen when he Impressed, and he is currently going through training. His attitude has been adjusted a bit by the rigors of his training and the decorum expected of a bronzerider. The boy has grown up, and doesn’t pick fights with his sister Jolie as much anymore, which is good because although he has graduated and now outranks her, Jolie hasn't changed her attitude towards him at all.
